Airmadidi, North Sulawesi — The spirit of global scholarship and collaboration came alive at Universitas Klabat in Airmadidi, as hundreds of researchers, lecturers, and students from five countries gathered for the 12th International Scholars Conference (12ISC) on October 7–8, 2025. This prestigious annual event carried the theme “Collaborative Innovations: Shaping Global Solutions through Interdisciplinary Research.”
Jointly organized by Universitas Klabat (Indonesia), Asia-Pacific International University (Thailand), Adventist University of the Philippines, and Universitas Advent Indonesia, the conference reaffirmed the Adventist higher-education network’s commitment to advancing academic excellence and global dialogue. The event successfully brought together representatives from fourteen institutions across Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, and Papua New Guinea, uniting scholars in a shared pursuit of knowledge and service.
UNKLAB President Pr. Danny I. Rantung, M.B.A., Ph.D., in his opening remarks, described it as an honor for the university to host this year’s ISC and to continue the legacy of scholarly exchange among Adventist institutions. “As a Christian university, we believe that research and innovation should not only expand knowledge but also serve humanity and our shared future,” he said.
Echoing this spirit of partnership, Prof. Ronny Hansje Walean, M.B.A., Ph.D., Vice President of Academic Affairs, explained that the collaboration among the four Adventist universities began in 2013 at AIU, Thailand, and that UNKLAB now proudly concludes the third cycle of this continuing alliance.
The two-day conference showcased exceptional academic vitality, featuring 155 papers presented by 159 authors and engaging 181 participants across seven major disciplines — from health and education to business, technology, and theology. Participants also included scholars from leading universities such as Universitas Indonesia, De La Salle University, and Pacific Adventist University, reflecting 12ISC’s growing role as a platform for global perspectives on local and regional issues.
Building on this rich exchange of ideas, the conference also featured five distinguished keynote speakers who inspired participants with thought-provoking insights on education, spirituality, and global collaboration — among them Munawir Sadzali Razak, S.IP., M.A. (Head of LLDIKTI Region XVI), who shared strategic directions for reshaping higher education policy in Indonesia.
“Our world today demands collaboration that transcends borders and disciplines. Through this conference, we not only share research but also build networks for sustainable solutions,” said Dr. Debby E. Sondakh, General Chair of the 12ISC and Director of Research and Community Service (LPPM) at UNKLAB.
Beyond the academic discussions, 12ISC also became a celebration of cultural exchange. The gala dinner and culture night featured captivating performances representing various nations and Indonesian traditions, creating a warm atmosphere of friendship and shared identity. Delegations from the Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan presented traditional dances, while UNKLAB students showcased Indonesia’s cultural richness through vibrant performances. “We hope the spirit of collaborative innovation will continue long after this conference. The ISC is not merely an annual event — it is a collective movement to build a better world through research,” Dr. Sondakh added.
With its successful hosting of the 12th ISC, Universitas Klabat once again underscored its role as a center for academic excellence, international collaboration, and faith-driven service. The conference’s lasting impact lies not only in its research outputs but also in the friendships, partnerships, and shared mission it continues to inspire among scholars around the world.

Airmadidi, Sulawesi Utara — Semangat kolaborasi dan keilmuan global terasa kuat di Universitas Klabat , Airmadidi, saat ratusan peneliti, dosen, dan mahasiswa dari lima negara berkumpul dalam 12th International Scholars Conference (12ISC) pada 7–8 Oktober 2025. Konferensi akademik bergengsi tahunan ini mengusung tema “Collaborative Innovations: Shaping Global Solutions through Interdisciplinary Research.”
Diselenggarakan bersama oleh Universitas Klabat (Indonesia), Asia-Pacific International University (Thailand), Adventist University of the Philippines, dan Universitas Advent Indonesia, kegiatan ini menegaskan komitmen jaringan pendidikan tinggi Advent terhadap keunggulan akademik dan dialog global. Konferensi ini berhasil menghimpun perwakilan dari 14 institusi di Indonesia, Filipina, Thailand, Taiwan, dan Papua Nugini, menyatukan para akademisi dalam semangat berbagi ilmu dan pelayanan.
Dalam sambutannya, Rektor Universitas Klabat, Pdt. Danny I. Rantung, M.B.A., Ph.D., menyampaikan bahwa menjadi tuan rumah ISC tahun ini merupakan kehormatan besar bagi UNKLAB untuk melanjutkan tradisi pertukaran ilmiah antaruniversitas Advent.
“Sebagai universitas Kristen, kami percaya bahwa penelitian dan inovasi tidak hanya untuk memperluas pengetahuan, tetapi juga untuk melayani kemanusiaan dan masa depan bersama,” ujarnya.
Sejalan dengan semangat kolaboratif tersebut, Prof. Ronny Hansje Walean, M.B.A., Ph.D., Wakil Rektor Bidang Administrasi Akademik, menjelaskan bahwa kerja sama empat universitas Advent ini telah dimulai sejak tahun 2013 di AIU, Thailand, dan kini UNKLAB dengan bangga menjadi tuan rumah penutup dari siklus ketiga kolaborasi tersebut.
Selama dua hari pelaksanaan, 12ISC menampilkan vitalitas akademik yang luar biasa dengan 155 makalah yang dipresentasikan oleh 159 penulis, melibatkan 181 peserta dari tujuh bidang utama — mulai dari kesehatan, pendidikan, bisnis, teknologi, hingga teologi. Peserta juga mencakup akademisi dari universitas ternama seperti Universitas Indonesia, De La Salle University, dan Pacific Adventist University, menegaskan peran 12ISC sebagai wadah pertukaran perspektif global terhadap isu-isu lokal dan regional.
Melanjutkan semangat pertukaran ide tersebut, konferensi ini juga menghadirkan lima pembicara utama (keynote speakers) yang memberikan inspirasi melalui pandangan mereka tentang pendidikan, spiritualitas, dan kolaborasi global di antaranya Munawir Sadzali Razak, S.IP., M.A. (Kepala LLDIKTI Wilayah XVI) yang menyampaikan arah strategis dalam transformasi kebijakan pendidikan tinggi di Indonesia.
“Dunia saat ini menuntut kolaborasi yang melampaui batas dan disiplin ilmu. Melalui konferensi ini, kita tidak hanya berbagi hasil penelitian, tetapi juga membangun jejaring untuk menciptakan solusi yang berkelanjutan” ungkap Dr. Debby E. Sondakh, Ketua Umum Panitia 12ISC sekaligus Direktur LPPM UNKLAB.
Pertukaran Budaya dan Semangat Kebersamaan
Di luar sesi akademik, 12ISC juga menjadi ajang perayaan keragaman budaya. Gala dinner dan culture night menghadirkan pertunjukan seni dari berbagai negara dan tradisi Indonesia, menciptakan suasana persahabatan yang hangat. Delegasi dari Filipina, Thailand, dan Taiwan menampilkan tarian tradisional, sementara mahasiswa UNKLAB memukau para tamu dengan pertunjukan budaya Indonesia yang penuh warna.
“Kami berharap semangat inovasi kolaboratif ini terus hidup bahkan setelah konferensi berakhir. ISC bukan sekadar kegiatan tahunan, tetapi gerakan bersama untuk membangun dunia yang lebih baik melalui penelitian,” tambah Dr. D. Sondakh.
Melalui keberhasilan penyelenggaraan 12ISC, Universitas Klabat kembali menegaskan perannya sebagai pusat keunggulan akademik, kolaborasi internasional, dan pelayanan berbasis iman. Dampak konferensi ini tidak hanya terlihat dari hasil penelitian yang dihasilkan, tetapi juga dari persahabatan, kemitraan, dan semangat bersama yang terus tumbuh di antara para akademisi di seluruh dunia.
